UOG Endowment Foundation celebrates 40 years of service
Last month, the University of Guam Endowment Foundation celebrated 40 years of service to UOG, the community, and the region. Since its inception in 1982, the non-profit organization has engaged thousands of individual and corporate donors in support of the university and its students.
“Forty years ago, the University of Guam Endowment Foundation was founded by a mixture of forward-thinking businesspeople, administrators, educators, and civic leaders who sought to help the University of Guam in its mission of Ina, Deskubre, Setbe — To Enlighten, To Discover, To Serve,” said Katrina Perez, executive director of UOGEF. “They believed that the strengthening of the University of Guam would be key in elevating our island communities and improving the overall quality of life for its people.”
On April 1, Gov. Lourdes Leon Guerrero signed Proclamation 2022-27 to commemorate UOGEF for 40 years of service and recognize its contributions and achievements. Some of the organization’s milestones include awarding more than $600,000 in scholarships to students and raising more than $350,000 through its annual “G is for Giving” campaign. The funds raised through UOGEF go toward capital projects, student scholarships, equipment purchases, research grants, bringing in visiting professors and lecturers, and more.
The celebration of the 40th anniversary will continue throughout the year with a joint exhibit with UOG at the Guam Museum in July, an anniversary gala in October, and the annual “G is for Giving” campaign from November through December.
