Tritons break undefeated streak with 5-2 loss to Dodgers
Despite the Tritons starting strong in the first inning with a 1-0 lead, the Dodgers came back to take the win 5-2 on Sunday night at Paseo Stadium in the Guam Major League. The loss for the Triton ends their undefeated streak of four games and puts the Tritons at 4-1 and in second place in the Guam Major League.
The Dodgers (3-2) tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first. With a tied ball game in third, the Dodgers go up 3-1 after Shon Muna Jr. and Shane Muna scored. An error by the Tritons in the bottom of the sixth allows the Dodgers to push their lead to 5-1 as Ryan Martinez hits a two-run single to bring in Tristin Debold and Shane Muna.
The Tritons load the bases in the top of the ninth, to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs, UOG’s Darron Eclavea scores after a wild pitch bringing the score to 5-2. As another ball gets away, Jonas Shmull gets caught trying to steal home, bringing the game to an end.
Losing UOG pitcher O’Neil Yobech allowed nine hits in the game but struck out eight batters. Kyle Martinez went 2-4 with an RBI for the Tritons. Shane Muna led the Dodgers going 3-4 on the night with two runs scored. Glenn Palomo gets the win for the Dodgers with four strikeouts.
The Tritons fall to 4-1 in the GML and move into second place. The Dodgers improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Tritons take on the Talo'fo'fo Rangers 7 p.m. on Monday, May 30, at Paseo Stadium.
