Apply to join the UOG Drone Corps
The University of Guam Drone Corps is now accepting applications for undergraduate and graduate students interested in becoming certified drone operators. The UOG Drone Corps is a comprehensive one-year program that provides members with the fundamentals of drone technology through immersive workshops and hands-on experience with technological applications.
The program is a collaborative effort between NASA Guam Space Grant and NASA Guam EPSCoR that aims to build a cadre of responsible Federal Aviation Administration-licensed pilots who can provide support to research projects in the region.
“We are extremely happy with the accomplishments of our inaugural cohort’s members,” said Romina King, associate director of NASA Guam Space Grant. “This year, we’re looking forward to delivering an even more robust and engaging experience for our upcoming members by collaborating with local experts in the drone industry.”
Students accepted into the UOG Drone Corps will receive a stipend for completing the three-step certification process:
The knowledge course aims to prepare members for the FAA exam by teaching them the necessary skills to understand remote flight regulations and safety procedures. It will be held in-person in July. Members who become FAA-licensed pilots will be granted opportunities throughout the year to earn flight time through internships and simulator experience.
