Tridents club team falls to Team Acdavate in championship game
The University of Guam Tridents co-ed club basketball team dropped the championship game of the “Love and Basketball” tournament held at the Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School Gym in Dededo. Team Acdavate claimed the championship title after defeating the Tridents 89-65 on Sunday.
Although the Tridents defeated Team Acdavate last Sunday in the playoff bracket, they could not keep up with Team Acdavate’s offense in the championship game. Acdavate started their offensive attack early in the game and led most of the first half. The Tridents managed to come back to tie the game 32-32 but started to fade again and trailed 51-38 at halftime.
UOG continued to fall in the second half and ended up losing the game by 24 points. The Tridents finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Tristan Valdes led UOG with 19 points while Ian Goodall scored 18 points for the Tridents. Due to an injury, the Tridents had to play without Ike Solomon — their leading scorer from the first day of the tournament.
The Tridents will compete in their last community tournament of the season at the “Take It 2 the South Part 2” tournament. They are scheduled to take on the Imperials at 8 p.m. Wednesday night at the Talofofo Gym.
