Game on: Triton Esports to host free tournaments for Charter Month
In celebration of the University of Guam’s platinum jubilee and Charter Month, Triton Esports will be hosting free tournaments and showcases for the community every week this month. The activities begin this week with a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate showcase at 6 p.m. tomorrow and a Tekken tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Esports athletes and enthusiasts of all ages in Guam and the Marianas are invited to compete for a chance to prove their skills and win more than $1,500 in prizes. Fans can also tune in to action-packed showcases featuring Triton Esports athletes and local celebrity athletes.
All events will be streamed live on the Triton Esports Twitch channel, with local shoutcasters analyzing the matches and providing commentary for fans.
In addition to the Charter Month events, Triton Esports will be launching its Minecraft
server this Friday. The server features familiar UOG landmarks — such as the Calvo
Field House and the Humanities and Social Sciences Building — rebuilt in Minecraft
and provides new players with a Triton welcome before they begin their survival experience
with the Minecraft community of Guam.
Server details will be provided through Triton Esports’ social media accounts and
Discord channel. It will be open to the public, and special privileges will be given
to enrolled UOG students.
Competitors can register for free at https://esports.uog.edu/70th/. Registration will close one day before each game.
At least one member per team must reside in Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands. Registrants under the age of 18 must have their parents or legal guardian sign a form permitting them to participate.
