Triton Athletics to hold tryouts for three varsity sports
The University of Guam Triton Athletics Department will be holding a second round of tryouts this coming Monday to fill its team rosters for baseball as well as women’s basketball and soccer. Tryouts for the three varsity sports are open to all current and incoming UOG students registered for the fanuchånan (August – December) semester.
Tryouts are set for:
"We’re hoping to complete our team rosters to give our student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the varsity level. We have 10 slots open for women’s basketball, 10 slots open for women’s soccer, and eight slots open for baseball,” said UOG Athletics Director Doug Palmer. “Whether they’re new to the sport or seasoned athletes, we welcome students at all levels to participate in tryouts.”
Athletic grants can be earned at the discretion and recommendation of the head coach with the approval of the athletics director. Eligible students will have the opportunity to earn up to $2,000 each to help cover the cost of tuition for the Fanuchånan 2021 semester. To be eligible, students must have a 2.50 GPA, first-time freshmen must have a 3.0 GPA out of high school, and transfer students must have a 2.50 GPA.
Current UOG students must be taking at least six credits and have a 2.00 GPA. First-time freshmen must have a 2.50 GPA out of high school to play their first semester at the university. Transfer students must have a 2.00 GPA from their previous school to play at UOG.
All students participating in tryouts must provide proof of partial or full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within seven days of the tryout date. Prior to playing in outside competition, student-athletes must obtain an athletic physical and be fully vaccinated.
