The Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service at the University of Guam will host its 27th Annual Guam System for Assistive Technology Conference through television broadcast on March 26, 27, and 28.

The conference is intended for individuals with disabilities as well as family members, caregivers, employers, senior living providers, students, therapists, educators, and individuals from local organizations and the community who provide support to individuals with disabilities. 

It may be viewed on four stations at the following times:

Under the theme “Creating MORE Opportunities in a Changing World,” the conference will highlight assistive technology in the areas of community, education, and the workplace.

Participants will hear four keynote presentations from the following renowned professionals in the assistive technology field:

  • “Creating Assistive Technology in Minutes Using Coroplast” 
    By Therese Willkomm, Ph.D., ATP, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Assistive Technology in New Hampshire, University of New Hampshire

  • “AT Assessment in Education: AT for All Students with a Disability”  
    By Gretchen Cole-Lade, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University and a Retired Special Education Teacher

  • “Disability Law in the Workplace” 
    By Attorney Daniel Somerfleck, Executive Director, Guam Legal Services Corp. – Disability Law Center

  • “Building Bridges for Smoother Transitions through Assistive Technology”
    By Carolyn Phillips, M.Ed., CPACC, Co-Director of the Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Director and Principal Investigator of Tools for Life, Georgia’s Assistive Technology Act Program

The conference is co-sponsored by the Guam Legal Services Corp. – Disability Law Center and the Guam Developmental Disabilities Council.
