MTV star, community leaders speak on diversity, equity, and inclusion at Tritons Out Loud event
The Triton student body celebrated diversity, unity, and equity last week with the second annual Tritons Out Loud event, hosted by the 59th Student Government Association. This year a week-long virtual celebration, the event culminated with a live-streamed main event on April 30, featuring talent performances and special guest speakers.
Guest speaker Larry Mallari, a cast member of the hit show “MTV’s Following: Bretman Rock,” shared with students his role as part of the LGBTQ and Asian communities in dealing with challenges related to equality.
Other speakers included Vincent Reyes, the master of dance and director of the Inetnon Gefpå’go Cultural Arts Program, who discussed the diverse talent of this region’s students and how students can express themselves, and Teresa Filepin, consul general for the Federated States of Micronesia, who talked about specific challenges that Micronesians face.
“Overall, the event was a huge success,” said Kyona Rivera, a senator in the Student Government Association and co-chair of the event. “A special thanks to the student body for participating in the momentous occasion. The celebration continues as Tritons will remain celebrated when it comes to their diversity and individuality.”
