In memoriam: James F. Wang
The University of Guam mourns the loss of former Regent James F. Wang, who passed away on Nov. 28 at the age of 73. Mr. Wang served as a Regent on the Board of Regents at the University of Guam from 1985 to 1991.
He was born in Peleliu, Palau, on Feb. 20, 1947, and later moved to Guam during his
later childhood years. After graduating from John F. Kennedy High School in 1967,
he enlisted in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and served in combat with the 1st Cavalry
Division (Airmobile) during the Vietnam War. During his time in service, he most notably
was
awarded two Bronze Stars, the Air Medal, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Mr. Wang eventually returned to Guam and started working for Cassidy’s Associated Insurance. He was appointed as the Consul General for the Palau Consulate of Guam under Palau President Kuniwo Nakamura’s administration, and he later served under Gov. F. Camacho’s administration in the Liaison and Community Affairs Office.
Mr. Wang was fluent in English, Palauan, and CHamoru. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and an accomplished artist who was featured at various veteran exhibitions throughout the island.
Viewing and last respects may be paid from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at Our Lady of Peace Funeral Home in Barrigada. A burial service will follow immediately at Guam Veterans Cemetery, Piti.
