University of Guam students seeking teaching assistantships or research opportunities relevant to NASA’s goals in aeronautics and space research are encouraged to apply for the NASA Space Grant Fellowship Program for the Fañomnåkan (January-May) 2021 semester.

The program is geared toward the support and enhancement of science, technology, and education as they pertain to NASA’s programs, including the study of the universe, evolution of life, our connection to space, and growth of STEM innovations in an era of exploration and discovery for the general welfare of the community. The program encompasses a broad range of STEM fields, such as geology, biology, oceanography, astronomy, computer science, medicine, and more.

The program includes separate paths for graduates and undergraduates. Graduate students may pursue a research project, while undergraduate students have the option to pursue either a teaching assistantship or a research project relevant to NASA’s goals.

Eligible applicants

U.S. citizens who are full-time graduates or undergraduates with a declared major are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a mentor — UOG faculty, senior researcher, or other qualified personnel — to guide them through the duration of the program. Fellowships will be awarded based on a proposed project’s quality, feasibility, and relevance to NASA’s goals, as well as the applicant’s academic aptitude. Women, underrepresented minorities, and individuals with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply.

Stipend

Financial support for undergraduates may include a one-semester stipend of $4,000, renewable for a second semester for a total of $8,000 per academic year. A travel and supply budget of $500 per semester will be available for those pursuing the research assistantship path.

Financial support for graduates may include a one-semester fellowship at $4,000, extending into a second semester for a total of $8,000 per year. A travel and supply budget of $500 will also be available.
