5 Can’t Miss Things This Charter Day
It's Charter Day at UOG! Come one, come all to discover and celebrate how UOG is taking local inspiration and making a global impact. This free all-day event is open to the public with opening ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. in the Center Courtyard, and activities running throughout the day until 5 p.m.
Be sure to check the Charter Day website for a full schedule of activities to best plan out your day, but here are five things you definitely won’t want to miss:
8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Calvo Field House
Grade-school students from around the island will compete in their proficiency of
the CHamoru language through song, chant, dance, dramatic cultural interpretation,
and essay. The event is hosted by the Chamorro Studies Program of the College of Liberal
Arts and Social Sciences and will be judged by members of the community who are fluent
in the CHamoru language.
9 a.m. – Noon, Marine Laboratory (shuttles available from top of the hill)
Come face-to-face with Guam’s marine life in the Marine Lab’s observation tanks while
learning about the unique research happening at the lab. Each tour will take approximately
30 minutes.
9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Dean’s Circle House # 36
Expand your perspective of Guam’s ecosystems at the University’s newly redesigned
Science Learning Center. The center, sponsored by the UOG Sea Grant, displays how
it’s all connected – from the Southern ridges down to the coral reefs.
9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Agriculture & Life Sciences Building Courtyard
From agriculture, aquaculture, natural resources, and invasive species to personal
health and nutrition, the University of Guam is a hub for regional research and community
education. Come browse more than 30 booths in the Agriculture & Life Sciences building
courtyard see what we’ve discovered and what we’re working to discover.
9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Computer Center, Office of Information Technology
Take a break from the heat on Charter Day and play a pickup match of Rocket League,
Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, SuperSmash Brothers Ultimate, or League of Legends in
our Triton Esports Game Center. This first-time event is one of many tech-focused
activities happening at the Computer Center as part of Charter Day's Tech Fest by
the UOG Office of Information Technology. Esports viewers are welcome as well! Complimentary
snacks and drinks provided by Micronesian Brokers Inc.
