The University of Guam has been commended in an interim accreditation review for its work to enhance student success, develop institutional data, and improve the review process for its degree programs.
The university submitted an interim report in November 2019 as a requirement of its reaffirmation of accreditation in 2016. The report was reviewed in January by a panel of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The commission accepted the report based on the recommendations of the review panel.
“We are very encouraged by the positive feedback from WSCUC on our efforts toward accreditation reaffirmation in 2024. This is a testament to the collective proactive efforts by our administrators, faculty, and staff to drive continuous improvement to support high quality programs, degree completion, and overall value,” said Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Anita Borja Enriquez, who serves as the university’s accreditation liaison officer.
Among the commendations in the review was the University’s work in building and leveraging a robust infrastructure of institutional data to drive decisions.
The review also commended the University’s creation of a new “more manageable and meaningful” model for degree program review, which is anticipated to be implemented next academic year, and its development and implementation of diverse, specific, and measurable strategies to enhance student success.
“The University of Guam believes in continuous improvement in all that we do, particularly when it comes to the success of our students,” said UOG President Thomas W. Krise. “This is a very positive interim review, and all of our university employees should be proud of their contributions.”
The University of Guam received its latest accreditation in 2016 for eight years and is scheduled for its next accreditation reaffirmation visit in 2024.
