The Guam/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program of the University of
Guam’s School of Health donated 92 care packages this month to elderly community members
and elderly with dementia. The packages were delivered by the Mayors’ Council of Guam
to the homes of participants of the island’s three Adult Day Care programs, which
the Mayors’ Council oversees.
Each bag contained face masks, COVID-19 related informational handouts, a flyer for
the University of Guam’s Isa Psychological Services Center, painting activity supplies,
and a pool noodle for exercise.
The Guam/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program was launched in August
under the University of Guam’s School of Health with a $3.75 million grant. The program
funds health care workforce development, family and caregiver training, and enhancement
of the UOG nursing assistant program specifically related to Alzheimer’s disease and
related dementias.
Of the three Adult Day Cares in operation on island — Macheche Adult Day Care, Guma
Ginefli’e Dementia Day Care, and Inarajan Adult Day Care — the latter two specifically
serve elderly with dementia.
