Individuals with disabilities and their family members, caregivers, and service providers
will be able to explore a variety of services specific to their needs at the 26th
Annual GSAT Assistive Technology Fair being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday
at the Agana Shopping Center.
“The fair is an opportunity for individuals to become aware of the services that exist in the community, and it is also a networking event that brings together agencies that equally serve the disability population,” said June De Leon, acting director for the University of Guam’s Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service, better known as Guam CEDDERS, which organizes the fair.
The fair will exhibit government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and product and service vendors that provide specific resources for individuals with disabilities. These resources range from hearing aids and assistive technologies to legal services.
Two weeks later, on Friday, March 20, will be the annual GSAT Assistive Technology Conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westin Resort Guam. Participants will hear from presenters on topics includings transportation, employment, transitioning from high school to post-secondary education, accessible polling places, and more. The conference will begin with a plenary, followed by a panel of individuals on their experience with different types of assistive technology, and then multiple breakout sessions in the afternoon.
Both events are free for the public. Seating at the conference is limited and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
