Mothers who are pursuing a degree at the University of Guam can apply to receive $1,000 toward their tuition through a new scholarship opportunity. The Sylvia Blas Mendiola Memorial Scholarship for Mothers is intended to assist mothers who are juggling school, work, and raising a family.

The scholarship was established by the children and grandchildren of Sylvia Blas Mendiola, a loving wife and mother of three who sacrificed to give her children opportunities to pursue their dreams. Born in Guam during World War II, she was a hard worker and contributed to the Santa Teresita Church and numerous civic organizations, including the Young Men’s League and the Guam Ladies Auxiliary.

The scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Guam who are mothers and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications are being accepted until 4 p.m. on Friday, June 5, through the UOG Endowment Foundation.
