Accounting student Jonathan Yanger is one of 234 students nationwide selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship for the coming school year from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. The scholarship will fund his tuition for his last two semesters before graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from UOG’s School of Business and Public Administration.

PCAOB, a nonprofit corporation that oversees auditors of issuers and broker-dealers, awards academic scholarships to undergraduate and graduate accounting students who are nominated by their educational institutions.

“Our PCAOB scholars represent the future leaders of the accounting and auditing profession,” said PCAOB Chairman William D. Duhnke. “We congratulate them for their academic dedication and achievements, and we wish them the best as they complete their education and begin their careers in the profession.”

Yanger said he was overwhelmed upon being notified of the award.

“There are many intelligent and hard-working students in UOG’s accounting program, so being selected from this pool to be UOG’s candidate by the accounting advisor, Dr. Doreen Crisostomo, was an honor in itself,” Yanger said.

Yanger plans to graduate in May and to complete the Certified Public Accountant exam shortly thereafter. He is interested in working for a financial firm to model and forecast the value of securities and investments. He also plans to pursue an advanced degree.

“I want to thank Dr. Crisostomo for my PCAOB nomination, my accounting professors for being patient when answering my countless questions in class, my fellow accounting classmates who continue to motivate me with their hard work and energy, and my family for continuing to support and believe in me,” Yanger said. “I hope other UOG students realize these types of awards can be within their grasp if they are willing to master their studies and build relationships with faculty and students in their programs.”
