Triton men make a comeback with a 91-72 defeat over Wu-Tang
The University of Guam Triton Men’s Basketball Team had to learn to play without its top scorer, Logan Hopkins, who was out for the game last night against Team Wu-Tang in the Triton Men’s Basketball League at the UOG Calvo Field House. Once the team adjusted to his absence, the Tritons came back from a 13-point deficit in the first quarter and an eight-point Wu-Tang lead at halftime to win the game 91-72.
The Tritons struggled in the first quarter to score, managing only 14 points in the
first 10 minutes and trailing 26-14 after the first period. UOG picked up the pace
in the second quarter, scoring 26 points and trailing 48-40 at the half.
The Tritons made adjustments at halftime and started to defend Wu-Tang better in the
second half, holding them to 24 points in the entire second half. UOG tied the game
at the end of the third period, 62-62, and then outscored Wu-Tang 29-10 in the final
quarter to win by 19 points.
Michael Quan led the Tritons with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. Brandon Soriano
hit a personal season-high 19 points, and Jerod Boles added another 14 for the team.
For Team WuTang, Amir Khozhiew topped the team with 30 points.
The Tritons improved their record to 4-4 for the regular season and play Team Gatorade
next at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday in the final televised game of the regular season. The
game will be broadcast live on PBS Guam Channel and the PBS Guam YouTube channel.
Team-Wu Tang is now 2-6 on the season and plays the FSAG All-Stars next at 8:15 p.m.
on Monday.
League-leading Team Gatorade takes 50-point victory over Four Stars
In the opening game of the night, league-leading Team Gatorade moved to 7-1 on the
season with a 122-72 victory against the Four Stars (1-6).
The Four Stars led most of the first period while Gatorade was a bit slow getting
started. But Team Gatorade began to warm up in the later stages of the first period
and took a first-quarter lead at 26-20. They continued in the lead the rest of the
game.
JP Cruz led Team Gatorade with 31 points while Joe Blas added 26 to the Gatorade total.
Whatson Tomy led the Four Stars with 19 points.
Team Gatorade faces the second-place KFC Bombers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bombers
are 6-0 in the league and beat Team Gatorade 90-68 in their first meeting.
The Four Stars completed their regular season last night and are 4-6 on the season
and await their seeding for the league playoffs, which begin on Sunday, Dec. 8.
