The University of Guam announces the following new hires and promotions within its leadership:
Camacho joins the university as interim legal counsel. He is an attorney under his own legal practice, representing private and government clients in complex civil litigation and procurement matters, among other areas. He has also served as an adjunct history professor at the University since 2013. Camacho has also worked as an attorney for the Consolidated Commission on Utilities, Guam Power Authority, and Guam Waterworks Authority as well as for the Law Office of Horecky & Associates. His juris doctorate is from Saint Louis University, and he also holds an associate degree in business, a bachelor’s in history, and a master’s in strategic studies.
Mendiola returns to the university as interim director of Residence Halls. Mendiola previously served as executive director of the UOG Endowment Foundation from 2010 to 2015. He has also served in other extracurricular capacities for the University including as president of the UOG Alumni Association. He is currently serving as chairman of the Guam Education Board. Mendiola holds a bachelor’s in health, physical education, recreation, and dance and a Master of Public Administration, both from the University of Guam.
Hechanova has been promoted to interim chief information officer for the university as of May. He first joined the university in 1996 as a Management Information Systems faculty member at the School of Business & Public Administration. In 2011, he joined the administration as the associate director of Telecommunications & Distance Education Operations (TADEO). He holds a master’s in information systems from Hawaii Pacific University and a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Guam.
Raymundo has been promoted to head the Marine Laboratory as interim director. This marks her second time in the position, having been director from 2010 to 2013. Just prior to becoming interim director, she was serving as a professor of biology. She first joined the University in 2004 as assistant professor of biology and chaired the biology program from 2008 to 2009. Raymundo earned her bachelor’s in zoology and master’s in water resource management from the State University of New York and her doctorate in coral ecology from Cornell University in New York.
Santos-Bamba has been promoted to associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences. She has been serving in the same role in an acting capacity since 2015 and is also an associate professor of English and CHamoru studies. She has a total of 16 years of experience in higher education. She holds a doctorate in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (Penn.), a master’s in literacy education from Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.), and a bachelor’s in English from the University of Guam.
