The University of Guam Triton Athletics Department is partnering with several entertainment companies to bring productions to the Guam community in the coming months that will benefit UOG students and projects through the UOG Endowment Foundation.

On Sept. 6, 7, and 8, the Calvo Field House will host World Theater Productions' stage production of “Mamma Mia." The event will benefit UOG athletes through a $10,000 donation to the UOG Endowment Foundation. The donation will fund $2,500 worth of athletic scholarships for each of the University's four varsity sports: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer.UOG Athletics Department

“Our average athletic scholarship is about $1,000 per student athlete, so each sport will have two to three extra scholarships to give because of this donation," Athletics Director Doug Palmer said.

The adaptation of the jukebox musical "Mamma Mia" will feature a cast of local talent joined by international award-winning actors and singers, including Deedee Magno Hall, Cliffton Hall, Lanie Sumalinog, Julio Fuentes, and AJ Rafael, who have performed in leading roles in theater, film, and television. The show is directed by Jojo Urquico with set design by Mio Infante.

UOG Endowment FoundationIn November, Triton Athletics and the UOG Endowment Foundation will partner with Showmakers Inc. to bring the Super American Circus to Guam. A donation from the event's proceeds will go to the UOG Foundation to fund equipment improvements in the Calvo Field House.

The Super American Circus is an animal-free, one-ring circus that has been on tour in Hawaii this year, featuring aerial displays, balancing acts, and motorcycle stunts. It is produced by Tuffy Nicholas, the son of former Ringling Bros. ringmaster Count Nicholas.

World Theater ProductionsIn December, Triton Athletics will partner once again with World Theater Productions to bring the island a production of "Frozen" with a $5,000 donation going to the UOG Endowment Foundation to be used by the UOG Recreation Program. The funds will be used to purchase new equipment for the Triton Fitness Room.

“The UOG Endowment Foundation and Triton Athletics are always looking for ways to make improvements to UOG and fund new projects," Palmer said. "We thank World Theater Productions and Showmakers Inc. for their partnership and support of our university. We hope to continue these partnerships into the future.”
