The University of Guam Triton Women’s Basketball Team won its fifth game of the regular season Monday night in the PBS Guam Women’s Basketball League at the UOG Calvo Field House. With the 73-64 win was against Fuetsa Basketball Club, the Tritons and Fuetsa are now tied for first place in the league heading into the semifinals.

Fuetsa handed the Tritons their first loss of the season on Sept. 17, but the Lady Tritons showed up stronger and with a new game plan in their second matchup against the team.

The Tritons went straight to work with Paige Persha scoring nine points followed by Jan-Nasia Tavilla with eight points. In addition, Niah Siguenza scored eight points to put the Tritons ahead 29-11 in the first quarter.

Persha and Tavilla dominated the third quarter as well adding a combined total of 20 points to the scoreboard. The two led the Tritons in scoring for the game, Persha with 23 points and Tavilla with 19.

Topping the score sheet for Fuetsa, Taneea Henderson had 16 points, including nine from the free-throw line, and Elysia Perez added 13 points for the team.

The Lady Tritons and Fuetsa are now both 5-1 for the season.

In the second game of the night, the UOG Tridents Women’s Basketball Club forfeited the game against Team Legends due to a shortage of players.   

Team Legends is now 2-4, while the Tridents club team falls to 0-6 in the regular season.

The semifinals for the league takes place this Monday. The varsity Tritons, sitting in second place, will play against third-place Team Legends in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. at the UOG Calvo Field House. In the second game of the night, first-place Fuetsa will be taking on the Tridents club team, standing in fourth place, at 8:15 p.m. The winners will compete in the championship game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
