Lady Tritons rout Team Legends, advance to championship game
The University of Guam Triton Women’s Basketball Team defeated Team Legends in the semifinals of the PBS Guam Women’s Basketball League on Monday night at the UOG Calvo Field House. With a score of 101-26, the Tritons will move on to the championship game of the league to be played tonight.
The UOG squad played its best game of the season jumping to a 28-11 lead after the first quarter and pushing the lead to 41-16 by halftime.
But the Tritons were most impressive in the second half, coming out in a half-court press that picked up the pace of the game. The Legends were outscored 60-10 in the second half as UOG went on to win 101-26.
Jan-Nasia Tavilla led the Lady Tritons in scoring with 23 points, while Paige Persha and Jacether Andrew scored 17 points each. Terese Sison led the Legends with 13 points.
For the championship, the Tritons will play the Fuetsa Basketball Club, both with season records of 6-1. Fuetsa is seeded No. 1 based on a 131-127 scoring margin over the Tritons. The two teams have split wins against each other in the regular season, with Fuetsa winning their first matchup 67-54 and the Tritons winning the second game 73-64. Fuetsa is a two-time champion of the previous two years’ Trident Women’s Basketball League.
Team Legends finish the season at 2-5, while the UOG Trident Women's Basketball Club finishes the season 0-7.
The PBS Guam Women’s Basketball League Championship will take place at 7 p.m. tonight in the Calvo Field House. Admission to the game is free.
