UOG Women's Basketball faces first loss of season
The University of Guam Triton Women’s Basketball Team found itself on the wrong end of the score at the close of the third PBS Guam Women’s Basketball League game. The Lady Tritons lost 67-52 to the Fuetsa Women’s Basketball Club on Tuesday night at the Calvo Field House.
The game was even to start, with both teams tied 16-16 at the end of the first quarter and the Tritons trailing 27-23 at halftime.
But Fuetsa’s style of play become more rugged in the third period, allowing them pull away. The Tritons were outscored 25 to 8 in the period and could not make it up in the fourth quarter.
Danica Cabrera led the Tritons in scoring with 13 points, and Jan-Nasia Tavilla added 11 points, all in the fourth quarter. Shania Bulala was the final member of the UOG team in double figures with 10 points. Niah Siguenza pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, and Page Persha grabbed 11 rebounds.
Taneea Henderson topped the scoring for Fuetsa with 20 points followed by Elysia Perez with 19 points to include six 3-point baskets.
Fuesta is now 3-0 in the league and has sole possession of first place. The Tritons are 2-1.
The Tritons play the Team Legends at 8:15 p.m. tonight, while Fuetsa will play at 6:30 p.m. against the UOG Tridents club basketball team.
In the first game of the night, the Team Legends won 54-50 over the UOG Tridents. Izzy Abad scored 26 points for the Tridents in her first game with club team. The Team Legends were led by Yvonne Maglona with 12 points and Theresa Sison and Carol Cruz with 10 points each.
The Tridents fall to 0-3, while the Legends move to 1-2.
