The University of Guam Women's Soccer Program will hold its first tryout of the 2019-2020 season from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, on the soccer field behind the Calvo Field House.

The tryout is for current UOG students as well as new freshmen players and new transfer students who will be attending UOG for the first time in August. New Women's Soccer Coach Gary Larkin will run the tryout.

"Anyone who has interest in the program and wants to tryout is welcome to attend," said Athletics Director Doug Palmer.

Students trying out must be full-time (at least 12 credits) in the upcoming fanuchånan semester and have a 2.00 GPA. Scholarship players must have a 2.50 GPA to receive a scholarship or keep a scholarship. Players may make the UOG team and not receive a scholarship. Scholarships are based on talent level and the coach's review, and scholarship funds are limited due to budget restrictions.

"We know some of last year's players are coming back, but we want Coach Larkin to have a chance to see them against some of the newcomers as well, and this will be a good test for everyone to earn scholarships for 2019-2020, so this be important for both new players and old," Palmer said.

The Lady Tritons were 12-3-1 in the 2018-2019 season, and the team came in second in the Guam Football Association's Bud Light Amateur League. The UOG Soccer Program then hired Larkin as the women's soccer coach. Rod Hidalgo previously coached both the men's and women's teams but now only coaches the men.

"This is a very important year for our women's soccer team," Palmer said. "We wish to play in the DI/Premier League." The Premier League would require at least 15 committed players, he said. He hopes to see the foundation for the Women's Soccer Team grow under Larkin's leadership in the coming year.

A second tryout for both the women's team and the men's team will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 19 and 20, leading directly into the regular season's practices.
