Women's Soccer ties for league championship, plays final game April 7
UOG's Elisha Benavente flies over the BOG goalkeeper.
The University of Guam Women's Soccer Team defeated the Bank of Guam Strykers 2-0
in a tough defensive match-up in the Guam Football Association Bud Light Amateur Women's
League on March 31 at the GFA National Training Center.
With the win, the Lady Tritons clinched a tie for the league championship. With a
victory next week against the Venue Sidekicks, UOG will claim the outright championship
of the league.
UOG, playing with only 10 players, started out slow in the match, with the Strykers
dominating play the first 10 minutes of game. The Tritons never crossed onto their
side of the field until the 10-minute mark. UOG was then able to control the ball
for a few minutes and build its numbers on the offensive side of the field and was
able to score on an assist by Kaitlyn Cox to Alyana Shedd.
The Strykers again controlled the ball for most of the first half, but they could
never get a good shot on goal, as they Lady Tritons kept them out of the goal box.
UOG was able to make an offensive build-up again at the end of the first half, and
Cox got a pass into the Strykers goal box that Elisha Benavante deflected into the
BOG goal for a Triton score.

UOG would lead 2-0 at halftime and the Lady Tritons came out strong in the second
half and finally had its fastbreak offense working, but the BOG goalkeeper kept the
Tritons out of the goal. In the final 30 minutes of the match, UOG pulled back into
defensive mode and was satisfied keeping BOG from scoring.
The Tritons won 2-0 and pushed their record to 12-0-1 in the league. The Strykers
fell to 5-7-1. The Triton defeated the Bank of Guam three times during the season:
2-1, 3-0, and now 2-0.
The Tritons play the Sidekicks for the championship at 3:30 p.m. next Sunday, April
7, at the GFA National Training Center.
