Lady Trident Basketball drops game to Fuesta 76-40
The Tridents Women's Basketball Club Team of the University of Guam Recreation Program came up short on Jan. 31 with a loss against Fuesta Basketball Club 76-40 in the Trident Women’s Basketball League at the UOG Calvo Field House.
Fuesta pushed the ball fast and quick and scored points both in and out of the paint to open the game and was up 31-6 after the first 10 minutes. Taneea Henderson led the scoring for Fuesta BC with 14 points in the first quarter.
The Lady Tridents roster size grew in numbers for its second game of the season and it was able to bring in a bigger team with more skills and experience. UOG began to find its rhythm in the second quarter by scoring 14 points and came up strong with solid defense that led to steals and rebounds on both ends of the floor, and UOG was able to hold Fuesta to 10 points in the second period and the Tridents trailed 41-20 at the half.
In the end, Fuesta pulled away with the 76-40 victory in the second half by playing better defense themselves against the Tridents and stopping UOG from shooting and drives insides the paint.
Top scorers in the game were Fuesta's Henderson with 23 points and Elisha Benavente (who also plays on the UOG Women’s Soccer Team) with 11. The Tridents were led by Izzy Abad with 10 points for the Tridents.
UOG is now 0-2 in the league and plays Team Slay at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Fuesta improves to 1-1 and plays Guam Community College next at 8 p.m. the same night. Both games will be held at the UOG Calvo Field House. Admission is free.
In the first game of the night, GCC was forced to forfeit to Team Slay due to only having four players at the game.
GCC is now 1-1, and Team Slay remains undefeated at 2-0.
