At just 23, Edward Leon Guerrero is already feeding a determination to master his island's native tongue.
He's a student at the University of Guam majoring in Micronesian Studies. He's surrounded himself with family members who have encouraged his interest and growth in the CHamoru language. And now he's teaching others to learn CHamoru while he continues to learn, himself.
Studying at UOG is where Edward became serious about grasping the CHamoru language. It began with learning about the region, the Marianas, and its history and taking a CHamoru language class. Edward would also use this as an opportunity to converse with his grandmother, who was bedridden.
