Co-ed soccer camps wrap up for summer
Twenty seven campers are learning the fundamentals of soccer this week at the last week of the Finakpo' Semester Boys & Girls Soccer Camps held by the University of Guam Triton Athletics Department. The department has hosted three week-long sessions for children ages 8 to 15. This week was an advanced camp, teaching higher level skills to build the kids' abilities on offense and defense.
UOG Head Men's Soccer Coach Rod Hidalgo leads the camp. This is the third year of co-ed soccer camps, which have grown from five total campers three years ago to 41 campers in 2019. The camps raise more than $10,000 for the varsity soccer programs at UOG.
The UOG soccer camps are held during June and July, and this is the first year the department has included an Advanced Camp. The soccer camps also include participants from the UOG Adventure Sports Camp.
"The soccer camps are growing," said Athletics Director Doug Palmer. "Coach Hidalgo has stayed with it, and it has grown to 25 kids, then 41 kids, and by 2020, hopefully we get 55-60 kids to participate."
