UOG teams sweep the competition in the GWCVL on Monday night

The University of Guam women's volleyball teams swept the competition on Sept. 24 in the UOG Calvo Field House in the Guam Women's College Volleyball League as the UOG's varsity team, the Tritons, crushed the Pacific Islands University Tide 3-0 and the UOG club team, the Tridents, defeated Guam Community College 3-1.

In the second match of the evening, the Tritons pounded the Tide in the opening two sets of the match, winning 25-6 and 25-8 as UOG made short work of the PIU squad. UOG won the third set 25-21 as the Tide did not quit on the match and gave the Tritons a solid set in the end.

In the opening match of the night, GCC won the first set of the evening, beating the Tridents 25-21, but the recreation club Tridents came back to win three straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-12, and 26-24 to win the match.

The Tritons took control in the league with a 4-0 record and a two-game lead, with two games left in the regular season. The Tridents and GCC are now tied for second place with 2-2 records, and PIU is 0-4 and in last place.

GWCVL play continues on Sept. 27 with PIU taking on GCC at 6:15 p.m. and the Tritons and Tridents playing at 7:45 p.m. Both matches are in the UOG Calvo Field House and admission is free.
