The tide continues to rise at the University of Guam Sea Grant Program. The National Sea Grant College Program announced a $100,000 annual increase in funding for the University of Guam. The announcement was made during the 2018 National Sea Grant Week conference, held Sept. 16–21 in Portland, Ore.
“We are pleased the National Sea Grant College Program is increasing its investment in the University of Guam and our community,” said Dr. Thomas W. Krise, president of UOG. “UOG Sea Grant is an important program at UOG that brings science to our community and improves the management of our natural resources.”
UOG Sea Grant brings the science of coastal resources to the people of Guam and the Micronesia region as one of 33 programs across the nation.
“We look forward to growing our impact in Guam and throughout the Micronesia region,”
said Dr. Austin Shelton, director of the UOG Sea Grant Program. “The additional funds will allow our program to support research and education that improves the health of coastal ecosystems and promotes environmental literacy and workforce development.”
The National Sea Grant College Program is a partnership between universities and the federal government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, an agency within the Department of Commerce. The Sea Grant network includes more than 3,000 scientists, engineers, public outreach experts, educators, and students.
