The 6th overall meeting between the rival UOG Varsity Tritons and the UOG Tridents MBC in the UOG Calvo Field House was over in 10 minutes, the
teams had to play 30 more minutes of basketball but the game was in practical terms
over before the halfway point in the first half.
The Tridents MBC had came ready to play, they had a full squad of 15 players, they
had warmed up early on the side court and they did a very professional team warm-up
in the pre-game but to no avail, as the Tritons jumped out to almost a 30 point lead
in first 10 minutes of the game, as the Tridents struggled to score to score their
first 10 points until the 2nd part of the first half and the Tritons rained 3s in
the early going, making nine 3 pointers in the first half.
The Tritons led at half-time, 63-35 and never looked back, with the Tridents never
reducing the deficient to less than 25 points.
The UOG Tritons moved their winning streak to 23 games. The Tritons are now 3-0 in
the Guam Men's College Basketball League and UOG found that their starting 5 still
has a lot of potential to score but found their reserves need to work on foul shots
and lay-ups, as UOG left another 30 points on the floor in missed easy opportunities
by the 2nd team.
AnJ Brown led the UOG Tritons with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 1 blocked shot, 3 steals
and 5 assists. Geno Anderson and AJ Carlos scored 17 points each while Ryan Nanguata
added 15 points.
The Tridents are now 0-2 in the GMCBL and on a 14 game losing streak stretching back
to last year's "College League" championship game.
The Tridents were led by Eilas David and Nikki Lekka with 16 points each.
The Tridents MBC face the winless Pacific Islands University Tide (0-2) on Tuesday,
February 6 at 6:15pm in the UOG Calvo Field House.
The Tritons finish off the first half of the GMCBL season on Friday, February 9th
at 8:00pm against the same PIU squad in the UOG Calvo Field House as well.
In the other GMCBL game of the evening, the Guam Community College Basketball Team
beat the Pacific Islands University Tide on Friday 84-50 as GCC pulled away in the
2nd half. GCC is now 2-1 on the season as the Tide falls to 0-2.
