UOG Trident Women’s Basketball Club Drops 4th Game In TWBL
The University of Guam Recreation Department Trident Women’s Basketball Club team
played their best 20 minutes of the season so far on Monday night in the first half
of their game in the Trident Women’s Basketball League at the UOG Calvo Field House
against the Royal Basketball Club. But their best play started to fall away in the
3rd period and then completely fail apart in the 4th quarter.
The Tridents and Royals battled even in the first half with the Tridents winning after
the first period, 13-10 and trailing by 1 point at half, with the Royals up 21-20.
The Royals outscored the Tridents by 4 points in the 3rd period to be winning 35-30
going into the final 10 minutes of the game, but the Royals got hot the 4th quarter,
scoring 21 points while the Tridents could only manage 9 points and the Royal Basketball
Club came away with a 56-39 victory.
Carmen Gogue led the Royals with 15 points, scoring 11 of her points in the 4th quarter
while Elysia Perez was close behind with 14 points, all of the points in the 2nd half.
Justine Yeban led UOG with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Momoko Ennis grabbed 17 rebounds
for the Tridents and had 7 points.
The Royals are now 2-2 for the season while the Tridents fell to 0-4. The league has
reached the half-way portion of the regular season.
In the other TWBL game of the evening, the Guam Community College team defeated the
Crusaders Basketball Club 45-42 in a close game. Nica Mejas lead GCC with 18 points,
10 in the fourth period and Sylvania Armor added 15 points. The Crusaders were led
by G. Sarusai and S. Cruz with 11 points each.
GCC is 3-1 in the TWBL in 2nd place behind the Fuetsa BC (4-0) and the Crusaders fell
to 1-3 for the first half of the season in 4th place.
The 2nd half of the season tips off Thursday, February 8th with Fuetsa BC vs Guam
Community College at 6:15pm and the Crusader BC against the Trident WBC at 8:00pm
in the UOG Calvo Field House. The Trident Women's Basketball League plays a mixed
schedule with Guam Men's College Basketball League on Saturday, February 10th in the
UOG Calvo Field House with both leagues playing alternate games. Games start at Noon
and admission is free.
