UOG Men's Soccer Ties SideKicks SC in Premier League Match
The University of Guam Men's Soccer Team tied the Sidekicks FC 1-1 on Friday night at the Guam Football Association National
Training Center in the Budweiser Premier League.
The Tritons seemed to dominate most of the match, especially early in the first half
and late in the 2nd half, but the solid pressure never resulted in a goal for the
Tritons.
The first half went scoreless with UOG getting more chances to score in the first
45 minutes than the Sidekicks, but the Tritons never got a clear opportunity to place
the ball in the net.
About halfway through the 2nd half, the UOG team was called for taking down a "Sidekicker"
in the Triton box, and the Sidekick SC was awarded a penalty kick, but the Sidekicker
missed badly to keep the score tied at 0-0.
The Sidekick FC took the lead 1-0 late in the 2nd half on a strange looking play as
the UOG goalkeeper and a UOG defensive back both stopped playing to look at each other
and allowed a Sidekicker to score. Two minutes later, the Tritons made two beautiful
passes that set-up Kyle Legozzie to score the tying goal on an assist by Dylan Naputi.
UOG dominated the final few minutes of the match but could never score as the Sidekicks
seemed satisfied with a tie and the Tritons could never put together another 2-3 good
passes to get an open shot.
UOG is now 7-0-1 and this was the first tie the Tritons have had since the new program
has started. The Sidekicks SC improved to 2 -5-1. UOG plays next Saturday, February
3 at 9:00 p.m. against Isla De Ladrones FC who are currently undefeated with a 5-0-0
record.
