UOG Men's Soccer Loses Tough Match To Rovers FC 3-1
Ball Bounces The Wrong Way For The Tritons, Rovers Defeat UOG 3-1 To Reach GFA Finals
The University of Guam Men's Soccer Team fought a good fight on Friday night at the Guam Football Association's National Training Center as the Tritons lost 3-1 to the 4 time GFA Men's Champions, the Rovers FC, in the semi-finals of the GFA Budweiser Premier League Playoffs.
The night would not be pretty for the hard fighting Tritons, as before the game even started, they were down one starter, as forward Kyle Leggozzie was out with an injury. And 2 minutes after the game started, UOG Captain Dylan Naputi broke free and was one on one with the Rovers goalkeeper, but could not get his shot into the Rover net.
The Rovers then dominated the first half from that point forward, as they mustered 3 goals while holding the Triton offense too little, if any chances the final 40 minutes of the opening half and UOG trailed 3-0 at the break.
But there was was still life for UOG, as during the early going in the 2nd half, two UOG shots hit metal on the Rover goal, but the bounces were not into the net but carried the ball out of bounds both times. Joseph Quan was able to score for UOG a bit later into the half and was the only player to score on the Rovers for UOG in two matches (Quan scored in a 4-1 loss on March 3)
But the luck turned bad again for the Tritons, as UOG lost one player to a questionable red card so the UOGers had to play short with only 10 players against the Rover's 11 and the speedy Dylan Naputi pulled a hamstring on another run and had to leave the game. But the Tritons played hard to the end, as they still developed offensive chances even down a player but lacked the firepower to score.
UOG finished the Premier League season 13-3-1 while the Rovers move to 17-1-0 as they go on to the finals of the Premier League.
And the Tritons season Is not done, as they will play their canceled match against the Bank of Guam Strykers "1" team on June 6th at 7:30 pm and UOG will open play in the Jamaican Grill GFA Cup on June 10th.
