The University of Guam Recreation Department Trident Men's Basketball Club routed the Pacific Islands University Tide on Monday night in the Guam Men's College Basketball League at the UOG Calvo Field House 96 to 27 while the Harvest Baptist Bible College team upset Guam Community College 79-73.

The Tridents never trailed in their game, jumping out to a solid lead early and holding the Tide to just 12 points in the first half and the Tridents built a 40 point lead at half-time, 52-12.

The 2nd half was much of the same, as PIU struggled to score and the Tridents went on to a 96-27 victory.

Nick Riel and Keith Taliugyan led the Tridents with 16 points each while no one from the Tide scored in double figures.

The Tridents are now 4-3 in the league while PIU falls to 0-7. The Tridents play Harvest Baptist Bible College on Friday, March 2 at 8:00pm in the UOG Calvo Field House to end the regular season. PIU plays the UOG Tritons on Thursday night, March 1 at 8:00pm to finish their regular seasons.

In the first game of the night, Harvest Baptist upset Guam Community College 79-73 and tighten the standings for 2nd place to fourth place. GCC led most of the first half, but Harvest Baptist came back in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half to take the lead and was up 36-32 at half-time. HBBC never allowed GCC to take a lead in the 2nd half and fought off all GCC attempts to comeback. John Masao led HBBC with 34 points while Roland Padock added 23 points. Eric Alegre scored 24 points for GCC and Ethan Alegre add 15 points.

The match-up between the Tridents and HBBC on Friday night will either set the seeds 2, 3, 4 or set-up a 3 way tie. If the Trident MBC wins, then the standings will be: #2 Tridents, #3 GCC and #4 HPPC or if Harvest Baptist wins, then all three teams are tied with 4-4 records and all teams split their 2 games during the regular season and the ties will be broken by "Least Points Allowed" between the tied teams. This situation happened last year when these same teams all tied for 2nd place and a tie-breaker was used to set the seeds.

GMCBL Playoffs start on Monday, March 5 with the #4 Seed playing the #5 Seed Pacific Islands in the opening rounds. Semi-Finals are on Tuesday, March 6 at 6:15pm and 8:00pm with the Championship Game on Saturday, March 10th at 4:00pm.
