UOG Women’s Soccer Opens Bud Light League With 4-1 Victory
The University of Guam Women’s Soccer Team opened their defense of Guam Football Association’s Bud Light D2 League with a 4-1
victory over the FC Familia club on Sunday night at the GFA National Training Center.
The match started off with a FC Familia kickoff that turned into a midfield shot on
the UOG goal which hit the right side pole of the Triton goal but bounced away and
UOG avoided an early goal and FC Familia would not have another shot until late in
the first half.
UOG dominated play for most of the first half and had multiple shots on goal. Koholali’i
Maertens scored for the Tritons about the mid-part of the first half to give the UOG
team the 1-0 lead that they held until half-time.
At the start of the 2nd half, the UOG goalkeeper couldn’t make a catch cleanly on
a FC Familia shot and FC Familia scored on a second shot from the dropped ball to
make 1-1 early in the 2nd half. But the Tritons came back quickly to score two fast
goals by Elisha Benavente and Mellanne Rasmussen to make it 3-1 for UOG and the Tritons
were back in control of the match.
Aiyana Shedd would score the 4th goal for the Tritons as the defending D2 Champions
would win the match 4-1.
UOG will play Team Slay next Sunday at 5:15 p.m. in a rematch of the D2 Championship
Match from the Spring of 2017.
