The Richard Flores Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC) at the University of Guam announces its next installment in its 2017-2018 seminar series, featuring a lecture by University of Bern graduate student Eva Kuske on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 entitled “Guam English: You’ve all heard it, but what does it really sound like?” beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) Lecture Hall on the UOG campus.  

The lectures are open to the public, free of charge and will be held on the second or third Tuesday of every month beginning at 6:30 p.m. 

Kuske received a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation to conduct her research project on Guam English, making her the first researcher to receive this grant in the subject of English linguistics. It allows her to spend a semester working at the Micronesia Area Research Center, at the University of Guam.

MARC is considered a world-class research facility for social sciences and humanities studies of the people of the Marianas and Micronesia. Everyone intent on learning about the culture, history, language of the people in this region must visit MARC’s research library. 

The lectures will be prerecorded by Rlene”Live” Productions and aired on PBS Guam and YouTube after edits.
