UOG Truman Scholar Athena McNinch Attends Leadership Week in Missouri
University of Guam 2017 Truman Scholar Athena McNinch recently completed the Truman
Scholar Leadership Week at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.
McNinch is a junior at UOG and the first Truman Scholar from the University of Guam
to double major in Public Administration and Criminal Justice.
Truman Scholars from throughout the nation came together that week and participated
in programs including local community service projects, mentoring sessions with public
servants, and graduate school preparation sessions.
The week culminated in the Truman Scholar Awards Weekend. Held at the Harry S. Truman
Library in Independence, Missouri, Athena received her official award certificate.
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards merit-based scholarships to college
students who plan to pursue careers in government or public service. Truman Scholars
receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate in leadership
development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment
with the federal government.
