UOG Triton’s Men’s Basketball Wins Major Game In Guam Challenge
The University of Guam Men’s Basketball Team won a major game in the short history of the young Triton Athletics program on
Sunday afternoon in the Guam Basketball Challenge at the Coral Reef Recreation Center
on the Andersen Air Force Base.
The Tritons defeated the Bulldogs 100-92 in a physical and chirpy game, which saw
the UOG squad defeat a team made up of some Guam National Team members and GBA players
from different GBA teams.
The Tritons came out outscoring the Bulldogs in the first period, as UOG led 29-23
at the end of the first 10 minutes of play. In the 2nd period, UOG continued with
a strong offensive push and led by 15 points 61-46 at half-time.
UOG maintained the 15 point led for most of the 3rd period but the Bulldogs made a
push late in the period to cut the Triton lead to 11 points 82-71 at the end of 30
minutes of play. UOG pushed the lead back to 15 points early in the 4th period but
the Bulldogs again made a push to cut the lead down to 6 points in the late part of
the 4th quarter but the UOG defense made some stops and led by 10 again at the one
minute mark left of play and the game ended as an eight point victory for the Tritons
100-92.
UOG was led by Anthony Brown with 25 points (4-8 from 3 point range) and 12 rebounds,
Blake Jenkins who added 23 points and 16 rebounds and had the best block of the night
by catching a Bulldog player from behind on a lay-up attempt and bouncing the ball
off the backboard. Jenkins also confused the Bulldog players with his inside moves
to score baskets. Billy Belger had 20 points as well, 4-9 from 3 point range while
Ryan Nangauta added 11 points with 3 steals.
UOG is now 2-0 in the Guam Basketball Challenge and face the Falcons and the Andersen
Bombers next weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
