UOG Men’s Soccer Team Opens Season Tonight
The University of Guam Men’s Soccer Team opens the 2017-18 Guam Football Association Men’s League tonight at 7:00 p.m. against
the LOA Heat at the GFA National Training Center. This season, there are not two divisions
but rather a combined “One Division” made up of 18 Division 1 and Division 2 teams
from 2016-17. There is a 17 match regular season with a 8 team playoff at the end.
UOG had a 15-7-0 record in 2016-17, with a 14-6-0 record in Division 2, good enough
for a 4th place finish, but the Tritons led the league for much of the 8 month season.
The Tritons were 1-1 in the GFA Cup at the end of the playing year.
UOG split matches with the LOA Heat in 2016-17, losing 1-0 in December as part of
UOG’s 4 match losing streak to end 2016 and start 2017, but the Tritons came back
to defeat the Heat 3-1 as part of their 8 match winning streak in January, February
and March. The Heat finished in 5th place in the Division 2 league last year, one
spot behind the Tritons with a 10-8-1 record.
The Tritons next match will be against the Bobcat Rovers on Friday, October 6.
