University of Guam

The University of Guam Women's Volleyball Team dropped their opening match in Guam Volleyball Federation League on Monday night in the Father Duenas Memorial High "Jungle" Gym 2-1 to the club team Haggen by the set scores of 25-17, 18-25 & 13-15.

The Tritons started out very strong and controlled the opening set of the match by winning 25-17. The UOG squad hit the ball well and played solid defense with the more experienced Haggen team and jumped to a 17-10 led and never was pressured in the set.

UOG lost the 2nd set 25-18 as the Lady Tritons fell behind early and could never get over the top to take the lead in the match. UOG kept coming back in the set to tie or get close, but Haggen kept the lead and won the set going away at the end.

In the third and final set (match to 15 points, not 25), UOG seemed to have the match won with an early 8-4 lead at the switch-over point (change sides of the court), but Haggen came back to tie the match at 12-12. Then their experience showed when the pressure was really on, as Haggen won 15-13 to win the match 2-1.

UOG returns to the Guam Women's College Volleyball League tonight at 8:00 p.m. against the UOG Women's Volleyball Club Team. They return to the Federation League on Saturday and Sunday, with matches on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. and Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
