UOG Tritons Rush Back Into Game, End Strong Despite Loss
The Tritons pulled within 4 points late in the 4th quarter against Team Justice, and
but fell short 85-77 to drop their second game of the Guam Basketball Association
fall season.
UOG started out slow in the first five minutes of the game, but the Tritons pulled closer, trailing only 22-18 at the end of the first quarter.
Team Justice came out shooting well in the 2nd quarter, scoring 21 points to lead 43-24 at the break.
Justice kept the lead in the 3rd period, leading 62-42 at the end of the third. UOG came roaring back in the 4th period, cutting the lead to 4 points with about 2 minutes left in the game. Despite efforts from the Tritons, Justice was able to build the lead back up to 8 points in the final minute of the game to reach the final score of 85-77.
"With last night's game, the coaches were very pleased with the attitude and effort of our players,” said Head Coach Brent Tipton. “At times we showed brilliance as a team, and at times we lacked consistency as a team. The players are deeply committed to the process of what it will take to be successful as a program. With that, they understand we will always strive to play hard and play as a team."
UOG was led by Andrew Carlos, who scored 18 points with 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Mark Canovas scored 5, Karlo De Leon 6 and Cris Perez added 4. Elias David pulled down 7 rebounds to lead UOG in that category while three other players had 6 rebounds.
Team Justice out rebounded the Tritons 58 to 43 and had three players who scored over 20 points for the game.
After two games, the Tritons are now 0-2 for the season while Team Justice is 1-1 . UOG plays again on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. vs the KFC Bombers in the UOG Calvo Field House.
