UOG Tritons Lose 75-73 Battle With Phoenix
An inspired University of Guam Men's Basketball Team dropped a heart-breaker to the
Phoenix Sons in the Guam Basketball Association League at the UOG Calvo Field House
75-73 on Sunday afternoon.
The Tritons playing their best game of the season, were winning after the first quarter 17-14 and trailed by 1 point 35-34 at half-time. UOG matched every Phoenix run with their own to keep the game close the entire 2nd half as the game was also tied 58-58 after 3 quarters and was a see-saw affair in the 4th period.
UOG was winning late, 73-71, but the Sons were able to tie it and then move ahead. UOG had several chances in the last few seconds to tie or win the game but the Phoenix defense did not give UOG a clean way to get the ball in-bounds.
The game featured 15 lead changes and 6 ties.
Eric Reyes led the Tritons with 13 points while Elias David added 11. Andrew Carlos and Daniel Dydasco scored 9 point each, and Giorgio Meneses and Ysu Mendiola both scored 8 points in a very balanced Triton offense. Mark Temerowski scored 16 for the Sons, and Julius Yu added 15.
The loss drops the Tritons to 0-6 in the Guam Basketball Association League and improves the Phoenix to 3-3.
UOG plays again on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. against team Justice at the Phoenix Center.
