UOG Triton Athletics Announces Fall 2016 All-Academic Team
The University of Guam Triton Athletics Program is proud to announce members of the Fall 2016 All-Academic Team, highlighting those athletes who performed well both on the court and in the classroom this year.
Athletes who excel academically throughout the year are named to either the White Team, Green Team, or Triton Club. The White Team distinction includes students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 to 3.49. The Green Team includes students who achieved a GPA of 3.50 to 3.99. The Triton Club is reserved for those who earn a 4.00 GPA.
For the Fall 2016 semester, there were 27 UOG student-athletes who were named to the different clubs with 15 to the White Club, 3 to the Green Club and 9 student-athletes to the “Triton” Club. Men’s soccer led the way with four student-athletes named to the Triton Club, with 3 students from the Women’s Volleyball Team and one each from Men’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer.
“At UOG we are dedicated to the model of the student-athlete being both a successful student and a superior athlete," said UOG Athletic Director Doug Palmer, "and as we move forward each year, we hope to increase our success both in the classroom and on the field or court”.
With 27 student-athletes in the academic clubs, the athletic department had almost 50% of its student-athletes make a 3.00 GPA or better.
“We hope to move that to 60-65% in the near future, as we begin to recruit quality student-athletes to the University of Guam,” Palmer said.
