UOG Triton Athletics Announces All-Academic Team and Men's Basketball Team Awards
The University of Guam Triton Athletics Program is proud to announce the Men’s Basketball
All-Academic Team, highlighting those athletes who performed well both on the court
and in the classroom this year.
Three players from the 2015-2016 UOG Tritons men’s basketball team were recognized
as “all-academic” for their strong academic progress during the Spring 2016 semester.
Junior criminal justice major Mark Tandoc was named to the White Team. Junior criminal
justice major Sahjahan Hossain and senior Health Science major Jordan Tingson were
named to the Green Team.
“The team has some excellent academic minds as well as shooters,” said UOG Athletic
Director Doug Palmer.
Athletes who excel academically throughout the year are named to either the White
Team, Green Team, or Triton Club. The White Team distinction includes students with
a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 to 3.49. The Green Team includes students who
achieved a GPA of 3.50 to 3.99. The Triton Club is reserved for those who earn a 4.00
GPA.
Assistant Coaches Brent Tipton and Julito Tingson also presented special awards to
a few of the players during a ceremony for the team held on May 12.
Tingson also earned the “Hustle Award” given to the player who continually motivates
and encourages his teammates while putting in exceptional effort.
Senior physical education and school health major Jorge Piolo was named “Most Improved
Player,” and junior Daren Hechanova received the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP) award.
The University of Guam Tritons returned to the court for the first time in 15 years
during the spring as the Tritons competed in the International Basketball Federation
(FIBA) sanctioned Guam Basketball League. The team, composed of all walk-on players,
finished with a record of two wins and 10 losses.
