UOG Students Honored By NMCL House of Representatives
The 19th Northern Marianas Commonwealth Legislature House of Representatives recently recognized
four University of Guam students who are members of the 55th Student Government Association (SGA).
Rep. Angel Demapan last month introduced House Resolution 19-52, which “recognize(s)
and congratulate(s) the (four) honorable students from Saipan— for being elected to
serve under the University of Guam’s 55th Student Government Association.”
Sophomore Business Administration major Bertran Palacios, sophomore Business Administration major Maria Angelica Malasarte, sophomore Business Administration major Jullian Briosos, and junior Health Science major Alexia Ada were all commended on their commitment to leadership.
Each student agreed that being a voice for the UOG student body was a driving force behind their motivation to join SGA. But it is the experiences and people they have met by being involved that made the largest impact, said Ada.
“I decided to join SGA because I wanted to contribute to the decision making, understanding the system and processes at the University of Guam, as well as connecting with various internal and external agencies and acting as conduit and a voice between students and the University,” Ada said.”
Briosos said he chose UOG because one day, he hopes to take all that he has learned, and return to Saipan to make positive changes.
“My goal in the end is to go back home and help out the community,” Briosos said, “but I feel the only way to do that is to pursue a higher education away from home so as to create a bigger impact in the future. The University has given me the opportunity to expand my network and work with a large diverse pool of people.”
