The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) has nationally recognized the University of Guam SHRM Student Chapter as an "Outstanding Student Chapter" for the second straight year. This is the third time UOG students have received this award. This distinction is the highest honor awarded by SHRM to student chapters which have developed and implemented innovative projects that cater to the professional development needs of its members and that assist in the transition from college to career.

“I’m very proud of our SHRM students and the UOG SHRM Student Chapter,” said Dr. Richard Colfax, Faculty Advisor. “We face many challenges each year, and our students find ways to over them. We are all very grateful for the continued support of the SBPA Dean and the SHRM-Guam Professional Chapter.”

Newly appointed SBPA Dean Dr. Annette Santos also expressed her congratulations to the University’s student chapter.

“Being recognized as an Outstanding Student Chapter for a three years is a merit of honor and great distinction,” Santos said. “This SHRM award reaffirms the quality of excellent student leaders that we develop in the School of Business and Public Administration and here at the University of Guam. We are proud of this award and the significant accomplishments of our students.”

The UOG SHRM Student Chapter will receive the award at the SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas this month. Students attending the conference this year will be Bridgette Almario (Vice President-elect), Rachel Bongato (Secretary-elect), Yukari Buccat (President-elect), Mark Canovas, Jonas Guiking, Audre McAuslen (former president), Hannah Mortera (former president), Calvin Vy (former PRO), Di Xiong (former vice president), and A-Ichea Yamada.

The SHRM conferences are the largest for human resources professionals with over 13,000 attending each year.  Among featured conference speakers for this year are Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, the winningest coach to NCAA Division 1 history, Mika Brzezinski, co-host of "Morning Joe", Marcus Buckingham, best-selling author and Dr. Mehmet Oz, world-renowned surgeon.
