UOG Professor Schumann Speaks on Tourism and Military Buildup on KPRG
University of Guam Associate Professor of Global Resources Management Dr. Fred Schumann recently guest-starred on local radio station KPRG’s program Beyond the Fence speaking about tourism and the military buildup.
Hosted by Vivian Dames, the program, which aired Oct. 7, dissected the relationship between the buildup and tourism on Guam. Schumann, the son of an army officer and expert with more than 30 years experience in international tourism in the Asia-Pacific region, spoke to the issue of protecting natural resources used for tourism from negative military impact, accessibility to attractions, and the cultural and historic features that build Guam’s brand identity.
The episode also featured input from Guam Visitor’s Bureau General Manager Jon Nathan Denight, Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association President Mary Rhodes, owner of Jeff’s Pirate’s Cove Jeff Pleadwell, park ranger Emily Sablan, project leader for the Mariana Islands Regfuges and Monument Complex Dr. Larisa Ford, and Guam Department of Parks and Recreation historian Anthony Ramirez.
