Dr. Amy OwenUniversity of Guam Associate Professor of Geography Dr. Amy Owen was recently published in the web journal Digital Culture and Education.

Owen’s article, which was published April 15 in Volume 8 of the journal, is titled “Culture matters <3 engaging students in redesigning coursework with digital components.” It outlines how she, with the help of her students, redesigned her course curriculum to include more digital components to not only enhance learning but make the coursework exciting.

“I wrote the article to share how geography curriculum was retooled with the help of UOG student cultural and digital use preferences,” she said. “There was a need to better engage UOG students and at the same time to deliver content with the assistance of current digital technologies.”

Owen tapped on her students to help revamp the curriculum because it is motivation for them to “own” the material.

“Students got involved in the redesign of the curriculum in all the human geography classes through class research projects,” she said. “When they become involved, they are made co-owners. Additionally they are well equipped for this task.”
