UOG Presidential Lecture Series features Majuro-Based Author Giff Johnson
Author, journalist and current editor of the Marshall Islands Journal, Giff Johnson
will be the 26th speaker in the University of Guam’s Presidential Lecture Series.
The lecture will be held on Monday, October 19 at the College of Liberal Arts & Social
Sciences (CLASS) Lecture Hall located on the UOG Campus.
Johnson’s lecture is entitled “Idyllic No More: Pacific Island Climate, Corruption
and Development Dilemmas.”
About Giff Johnson
Giff Johnson is editor of the Marshall Islands Journal, the independent weekly newspaper published in Majuro, and a contributor to several
news media in the Pacific. He is the author of “Idyllic No More: Pacific Islands Climate,
Corruption and Development Dilemmas,” published in 2015, “Don't Ever Whisper — Darlene
Keju: Pacific Health Pioneer, Champion for Nuclear Survivors,” published in 2013,
and “Nuclear Past, Unclear Future,” a history of the U.S. nuclear testing program
in the Marshall Islands, published in 2009. He has lived and worked in Majuro since
1984.
He has also been a basketball official for over 40 years, and coached several Marshall
Islands national men’s and women’s basketball teams in Micronesia regional competition.
His son, Iohaan, is attending the University of Guam and his daughter is in high school
in Singapore.
