1/5/2018

The University of Guam Public Information and Legal Studies (PALS) Program and the PA 304 Public Information class have organized a Harassment Prevention workshop for students featuring local and federal guest speakers. The workshop is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21 in Room 129 of the Jesus & Eugenia Leon Guerrero Business and Public Administration Building on the UOG campus.

The purpose of the workshop is to increase public awareness, especially among students by providing information on recognizing forms of harassment, harassment prevention and how to deal with a harassment situation. The workshop is being offered as part of the University of Guam’s continuous commitment to a harassment-free campus.

“The outcome we hope to achieve from this workshop is creating awareness among our students to help them identify and prepare to respond to harassment situations in their professional and personal lives,” said Dr. Annette Taijeron Santos, Dean of the School of Business and Public Administration.

Featured speakers include Attorney General of Guam Elizabeth Barrett-Anderson, Vice Speaker of the Guam Legislature Sen. Benjamin Cruz, Associate Professor Dr. Ron McNinch, Assistant Professor Ron Aguon, Associate Professor Dr. Ansito Walter, Assistant Professor Dr. John Rivera, and FBI representatives.

The speakers will discuss topics pertaining to harassment, such as laws and reporting procedures, and the types of federal and local government responses to harassment cases. Presentations will cover Guam laws and harassment, procedures to investigate and prosecute harassment cases, promoting ethics to avoid harassment cases, and more.

Due to limited space, attendees will be admitted to the workshop on a "first-come, first-served basis." The workshop is free, and light refreshments will be served.
